Fani Willis Is Permanently Removed From Trump Case

Fulton County DA’s Effort in Trump Case Concluded

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has wrapped up her fight to remain involved in the case against President Donald Trump and his co-defendants.

This past Tuesday, the Georgia Supreme Court declined to hear her appeal following a decision made by a lower court that had disqualified her from the case.

A defense attorney sought to remove Willis from the case, citing concerns about her hiring Nathan Wade, a personal partner, which he claimed could present a conflict of interest. In early 2024, he alleged that Willis had improperly benefited from granting favored contracts, linking this to personal trips like cruises. It was also claimed that Willis wrongly stated that all special prosecutors received identical pay, despite reports indicating Wade was paid more than other expert attorneys in the state.

Willis’s office has not provided an immediate response to inquiries regarding the matter.

Jeff Clark, a defense attorney, took to social media to express that he was glad Willis was permanently barred from pursuing charges against Trump and others. His tweet noted the Supreme Court’s refusal to accept Willis’s appeal.

Steve Sadow, the lead attorney for the defense in Georgia, remarked that the court made the right choice in refusing to review the Georgia Court of Appeals’ earlier decision that had disqualified Willis from the prosecution. He criticized her conduct during the investigation, asserting that this ruling should effectively conclude the legal actions against Trump.

A December 2024 ruling from the Georgia Court of Appeals had stated that the court had erred by not disqualifying Willis and her office.

Clark conveyed that the case would now proceed to the Georgia Prosecutor’s Attorneys Council, who would decide on a replacement for Willis moving forward.
