An armed intruder posing as a delivery man broke into a home in Spring Branch, Texas, on Tuesday morning, terrorizing a mother and her two young children.
The incident ended with a suspect being taken into custody after a Houston police officer was shot and killed.
After one of the robbers walked through the front yard of the home several times, one of the gunmen arrived at the home's front door wearing a mask and disguised as a delivery man carrying a red DoorDash bag, the affidavit said. Once inside the residence, the suspects tied her wrists and held her two sons, ages 1 and 3, hostage.
Police responded quickly after a neighbor noticed suspicious activity at the home and called 911. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and engaged the suspects, with one officer being shot in the leg during the confrontation, according to Click2Houston.
Homeowner Ben Bates, Nicole's father, was shocked by what happened and said the burglars ransacked the house looking for valuables but didn't steal anything of value. said Reporters.
Nicole and her children were not physically harmed but were left shaken by the incident.
“I can't imagine what my daughter is going through right now,” Bates said.
Houston police arrested two suspects at the scene, and a third suspect was arrested later the same day.
