RENO, Nevada — Many teams bowling at the National Bowling Congress Open Championship make travel a family affair. That’s what Michael Hull and his team, Hull Point Pursuit, have been doing for his 20 years.
On Thursday at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada, the group of family and friends showcased their team chemistry while leading a total of 2,700 classified teams in the 2023 edition of the event.
Formerly with Flagstaff, Hull now lives in Alaska and competes in the USBC Open Championship every year with his brothers John and Chris Hull and close friends Ryan Hailey and Tim Macias.
The team posted a consistent game on NBS Thursday, posting scores of 898, 896 and 906 to lead by more than 220 pins.
The Hull Point Pursuit team effort was led by John Hull’s 621 series. He was followed by Macias (555), Michael Hull (516), Haley (507) and Chris Hull (501), previously leading his two teams with 2,479 (Jackson Hewitt Tax Accountant of Yakima, Washington). office) and Leonard. “This group has been bowling together for years,” said Michael Hull, who is making his 20th appearance at the British Open. “My father and uncle stopped coming about four years before he did, but my brother and I have been bowling together every year since 2005.”
Teammates noted that Thursday’s effort was their best collective performance as a unit in Championship lane. Now, I look to the leaderboards daily to see if their scores hold up to take home the coveted Eagle trophy.
“It’s special to do this well with my brothers and friends. If we win, it will be an indescribable feeling,” said Michael Hull. “This victory will definitely be dedicated to my father and uncle.”
Classified teams feature bowlers with total entry averages of 775 or less.
The 2023 Open Championship starts on March 4th and ends on July 24th. The 143-day tournament will see more than 9,700 of his five-man teams and his nearly 50,000 bowlers.

Flagstaff competed at the Red Mountain Rampage at Mesa on Friday.
Freshman Elijah Tarukarai was one of the highlights for the Eagles, winning the 800m race with a time of 2:08.54. Freshman Alex Brand finished second with a 2:09.18.

Eagles 6, Thunderbirds 2
Flagstaff beat Mojave on Friday to push their record to 4-0 (1-0 Grand Canyon).
The Eagles have yet to play a home game, but they remain undefeated in regular-season matchups. Flagstaff topped the first innings where he started the game with three runs and led the rest of the way.
Senior Nick Lopez went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs, 3 stolen bases and walks.
Senior Caleb Clifton pitched all seven innings, giving up just five hits and stealing seven batters.
The Eagles are set to host the Mojave on Monday.

Flagstaff fell victim to one of Arizona’s top pitchers Friday. Greenway Senior Caitlin His Terry allowed only one Eagles batter to reach base, striking out 15 batters. Commitment to UCLA reached his 1,000 hitter mark in high school.
Eagles junior Gianna Baka recorded Flagstaff’s only hit, going 1-for-3 at bat.
Flagstaff (3-1, 0-0 Grand Canyon) looks set to rebound in a doubleheader in Mojave on Monday.
women’s tennis
Eagles 9, Knights 0
Flagstaff pushed their record to 3-1 with a win over Westview on Friday.
The Eagles swept the doubles with relative ease, winning 8-4 with seniors Harmony Labanok and Jadin Romero in second place. Her sophomores Ana Drinen and Kaitlyn Barr also finished third and she won 8-4.
Freshman Anika Didovic grabbed Flagstaff’s most dominant singles win, going 6-1, 6-2 in first place.
Sophomore Ilianna Muscarella lost 6-0 in the first set in third place in singles. She came from behind with her 9-7 comeback in her second set and the ensuing tiebreak she won 12-10 to clinch the win.
The Eagles play their first Section II matchup against Barry Goldwater in Flagstaff on Thursday.
men’s tennis
Eagles 8, Knights 1
Flagstaff won their second straight on Friday, beating Westview.
The Eagles (2-1, 0-0 Section II) won the doubles match 2-1 and swept six singles matches.
Freshman August Fay nearly pulled off a perfect sweep in third place in the singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Flagstaff visits Barry Goldwater in Phoenix on Thursday.
