Flash flood alert announced for Coconino County, encompassing Sedona

On August 15th, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Coconino County, including Sedona, effective from 5:27 PM to 8:30 PM.

According to Doppler radar and rain gauge data, thunderstorms have been causing heavy rainfall in areas near Oak Creek around Man’s Park, with amounts ranging between 0.75 and 1.75 inches. There’s a chance of an additional 0.5 inches of rain in the warned areas.

Life-threatening flash floods are anticipated to start soon in typically dry streams, urban neighborhoods, highways, roads, and underground passages.

Areas at risk for flash flooding include Sedona, Schnebl Hill Overlook, Man’s Park, Mand Mountain Wilderness, Indian Garden, Uptown Sedona, and the wilderness of Red Rock Secret Mountain.

This warning affects Interstate 17 between mile markers 320 and 326, Condition Route 179 near Mile Marker 313, and Condition Route 89A between Mile Markers 374 and 380. Oak Creek is among the streams and rivers mentioned in flood warnings.
