Video from Minneapolis resurfaced Tuesday showing police officers firing paintballs into residents' homes to enforce a 2020 curfew.
The enforcement measures came days after Minnesota's Democratic governor, Tim Walz, imposed a strict night-time curfew in an effort to quell violent unrest sparked by the death of George Floyd. video Officers can be seen shouting at residents to go inside their homes, and one officer can be heard ordering “Light it up!” before paintballs are thrown at residents.

The incident highlighted the tensions in Minneapolis at the time, with even law-abiding citizens finding themselves targeted by harsh police tactics, the New York Post reported. ReportedGovernor Walz justified the curfew, part of a broader crackdown that has resulted in more than 400 arrests, as necessary given the nature of the rioting and looting. According to the outlet, the governor faced heavy criticism not only for enforcing the curfew, but also for previous pandemic-related measures, such as setting up a hotline to report social distancing violations. The approach, which was condemned by local politicians such as Republican Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and Republican Minnesota Representative Mary Franson, was seen as fueling distrust among Minnesotans.
The resurfacing of the video has brought renewed attention to the extreme measures taken during the unrest in Minneapolis.
