Maricopa County’s regional park system has been affected by high-altitude melting snow and recent rains that have damaged trails and forced the removal of bridges.
Several trails in the Hassayampa River Reserve suffered significant damage last week as the river reached its highest point in years, according to a county statement. A bridge had to be removed to safely cross the creek.
Lake Pleasant Regional Park is beginning to experience the aftermath of flooding as “huge amounts of debris washed into the lake.”
Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Director RJ Cardin said:
“Lake staff are marking affected areas as soon as possible. However, park visitors must be diligent as they engage in recreation on the lake.”
Most of the debris will be pulled toward the shoreline, officials said. However, when towing buoyancy devices, jet skis, paddleboards, or other types of watercraft, it is recommended that caution be exercised during rebuilding and attention to waterways to avoid damage or injury to the boat. To do.”
