Fmr FBI Agent Says New DOJ Charges Against Informant Are Not ‘Victory Lap’ For Biden

Former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Stuart Kaplan said on Fox News on Friday that the Department of Justice (DOJ) charges against a key informant who provided details of an alleged conspiracy against President Joe Biden and his family are against Biden. He said that it was not a “stage of victory'' for him.

Mr. Kaplan appeared on “Jesse Watters Prime Time” on Thursday to discuss Special Counsel David Weiss' charges against witness Alexander Smirnov. Fox host Jesse Watters asked the former FBI agent about his thoughts on the charges and “what they tell us” about the future of the case against Biden. “Well, this is not the time for the FBI to be winning. This is disgraceful, it's embarrassing, and this is definitely not the time for Mr. Biden to be celebrating a victory,” Kaplan said. “Jesse, when that 1023 form was released last year, my colleagues and I knew at that point that that informant was going to be victimized. It was only a matter of time. It's been on the books since 2011, 2011, 2012 until recently. Unless you've been vetted and you can trust someone, you don't end up on FBI records.”

“And given the fact that he receives a large amount of money from the FBI and that so many people have to agree to that payment, the need to prove that he is a very productive informant. “There is,” Kaplan continued. “So what the FBI and our government want us to believe now is that we have removed the predicate of who started the ball rolling by saying bad things and saying bad things about Biden, and now we have other It’s about collecting all the information: every trail of money, every check, every payment.”

“But we're going to discredit the man who assaulted him, so let's throw everything in the trash as if nothing happened,” he added. “So let's say we eliminate this guy. We still have a treasure trove of evidence leading directly from Hunter Biden to his father. It's insane. It's illogical. It's really embarrassing. I cannot believe that the FBI has taken action to expose this informant again.”

In 2020, Smirnov disclosed details to the FBI regarding corruption allegations involving the president and his family at Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Since the new charges were filed, Smirnov faces one charge of making a false statement and another charge of creating a false and fictitious record.
