Fmr Federal Prosecutor Says Trump Case Is Most Politically Abused In U.S. History And Can Be Overturned

A former federal prosecutor called the conviction of President-elect Donald Trump “the most blatant political misuse and abuse of the criminal justice system in American history” and said the conviction could be overturned.

“All of our thinking about it, all of our commentary about it should be done through that lens,” Sol Weisenberg said at a news conference. exterior About “The Ingraham Angle.”

Weisenberg explained what grounds Trump’s conviction could be overturned.

“I think one of the areas that you’ve started, which is very important from a constitutional perspective, is the issue of presidential immunity. As I said on the show earlier, Mr. Bragg called on former advisers to President Trump. “We made the decision to take testimony, and there was no need to do so. And this was also mentioned in closing arguments,” Weisenberg said.

Despite efforts by Trump’s defense team to address these issues before presenting the case to the jury, the jury rejected their motion, Weisenberg said. (Related: FMR Democratic Party chief adviser defends Trump, slams ‘politicized’ justice under Biden administration)

“That’s a problem under the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling. And Trump’s lawyers tried to litigate that issue. The Supreme Court hadn’t ruled yet, but they wanted to make sure that the issue before it went to a jury. We wanted to take the issue to court, but the judge wouldn’t allow it,” Weisenberg said. “I think that’s a strong potential rationale, but there’s a lot more.”

Weisenberg also criticized the way prosecutors handled the case, saying the charges filed in New York would not have been filed against anyone else under similar circumstances. He also said the case was influenced more by political bias than judicial integrity.

“As everyone knows, this lawsuit could never have been filed in New York based on these facts against any other person,” Weisenberg told host Laura Ingraham. told.

Judge Juan Melchan on Friday sentenced Trump to unconditional release. Under New York state law, this type of sentence does not include jail time, fines, or probation.

In a narrow 5-4 decision Thursday night, the Supreme Court refused to halt the sentencing. A majority of the justices noted that evidentiary issues raised by Trump during the trial could be considered by the appellate court.

During his sentencing, Trump criticized Marchand for holding a hearing just days before he was scheduled to be inaugurated.

“This was a very bad experience. I think this is a huge setback for the American court system,” Trump said.
