Former Democratic Representative States That If Trump Can Broker Ukraine-Russia Agreement, He Will Truly Earn the Nobel Peace Prize

Ford Jr. Suggests Trump Deserves Nobel Peace Prize for Ukraine Deal

On Monday, former Democrat Tennessee Representative Harold Ford Jr. expressed on Fox News’ “Five People” that he believes a deal facilitated by President Donald Trump between Ukraine and Russia would be deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize.

Ford Jr. noted that Trump had met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, discussing potential agreements with Russia shortly after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The conflict, which escalated into a full-scale war in February 2022, has drawn significant international concern. Despite the tensions, Ford Jr. mentioned he was not apprehensive about Trump’s engagement with Putin. “There were people on both sides who were uneasy about those meetings. Some Republicans even criticized giving Putin a platform. I, personally, didn’t,” Ford Jr. remarked. He continued, reflecting on the historical context of the Cold War and how it shaped current international boundaries.

Ford Jr. pointed out that Putin has openly expressed desires to restore the influence of the former Soviet Union, an idea that raises serious concerns, especially for the Baltic states. “If we talk too casually about these lines being redrawn, we might inadvertently threaten countries like Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania,” he added.

Before his talks with Trump, Putin had shown reluctance to engage in discussions with Ukraine. Trump, however, emphasized to Putin that it was essential for negotiations to start soon.

Even though no agreement was achieved during their discussions, both leaders stated that they felt the conversations were moving in a positive direction. Early reports indicated that Putin might consider a cease-fire in exchange for the Russian-speaking Donbas region.

“I’m not saying that’s exactly where Trump stands. It’s unclear if he’s inclined to concede more than Crimea either,” Ford Jr. mentioned. He seemed skeptical about any willingness to give up a significant portion of Ukraine. “Imagine if someone proposed taking 30% of your territory, like Miami,” he questioned rhetorically.

Watters interjected, suggesting that Putin’s goal was simply to negotiate a deal, while Zelensky firmly stated he would not compromise on territorial integrity.

“I’m not implying you’re saying this, but my main point is that if President Trump can successfully broker this deal, it would be quite an achievement. We’ve been suggesting on this show for weeks that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts,” Ford Jr. stated, hoping to be invited to the White House if Trump were to win.

If an agreement materializes, it would not be the first time Trump has succeeded in mediating international conflicts. On August 8, he played a role in resolving a three-year dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia regarding territorial claims, leading both leaders to advocate for Trump as a Nobel Peace Prize candidate.

Since taking office in January, Trump has also brokered ceasefires between Thailand and Cambodia, Israel and Syria, as well as India and Pakistan.
