Former DOJ Official Says He’d ‘Be Very Surprised’ If Hunter Biden Gets ‘Away With No Time Served’

John Yoo, a senior Justice Department official under former President George W. Bush, said he would be shocked if Hunter Biden avoids prison time in Thursday's plea deal.

According to multiple reports, Hunter Biden is attempting to shift charges in his federal tax case, where jury selection was scheduled to begin Thursday in California. Yoo noted on “Outnumbered” that Hunter Biden is unlikely to avoid prison time and could face at least a year in prison, given that he has allegedly not paid about $1 million in taxes. “I think it'll be one to three years. I'd be surprised if the Department of Justice lets him get away with no prison time,” Yu said. “We're talking about someone who didn't pay $1 million in taxes. So, according to the IRS whistleblower, Hunter had $20 million coming in from abroad. He could still be investigated as a foreign agent. There's still a lot of things that could be investigated.”

Hunter Biden face He faces up to 17 years in prison on nine charges, including three felonies, for failing to pay more than $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019. Prosecutors allege that instead of paying taxes, he spent his large income on a “lavish lifestyle” that included “drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, luxury cars, clothing and other personal items.”

Special counsel David Weiss's team suggested in court documents that they plan to have one of Hunter Biden's business associates testify about money he received from a Romanian businessman who was “attempting to influence U.S. policy and public opinion.”

“Typically the Department of Justice will offer you a pretty favorable deal if you plead guilty, but if you take it to trial, they'll give you the harshest punishment, the maximum sentence. But this is a political situation where justice is now one of the big issues,” Yoo said at the start of the show. “This is a case where we're seeing very today where the special counsel is going after Trump, and he's got all the pushback he can get from the Supreme Court, and he's got his guns blazing.”

“And on the other hand, Hunter Biden could end up getting a very favorable plea deal from that very same Department of Justice,” he added. “So I think this is all an effort by the Biden-Harris Administration to depoliticize Loafer.”
