FOX News host Shannon Bream supports President Joe Biden as Republican New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is endorsing former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The chances of him winning on Sunday are “almost zero,” he said.
Sununu appeared on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss his continued support. Even though Haley was in the shadow of former President Donald Trump, Iowa and U.S. Virgin Islands caucuses and of new hampshire Major. Bream began by noting that Haley's chances of being nominated by the Republican Party are almost zero, and asked the governor why he would continue to take “actions” that could help Biden in the run-up to the November general election. Asked. (Related: South Carolina voters don't care about Nikki Haley's home state roots ahead of primary: poll)
“So, listen, if statistically she has next to no chance of winning the nomination, why does she continue to do things that help President Biden overall?” Bream asked.
Sununu pushed back against Bream's comments, saying it was “nonsense” that Haley had no chance of winning the nomination. He said that not only is it “fair game” to criticize other candidates “as they are,” but that Trump is “not free riding” on the position.
“First of all, the chances of her getting the nomination are non-zero. That in itself is nonsense. This is the primary, and everything always ends up missing. If you go back to 2016, everyone was attacking Trump etc. – it was expanded and this is the same [context]”You can't attack the front-runner because it could be used by Democrats,” Sununu said.
“This is about winning the nomination at this point, fighting and calling out the candidates as they are. And letting people know who they're actually voting for when they vote for someone. What is the rhetoric that is out there? Where are these policies going? It's all completely fair game and put on the table for people to make choices. He should. It's outrageous to go around two or three states and call it a day. That's a bunch of Trump-crazy fans just praying the former president gets a free ride. He's You didn’t earn a free ride and you don’t deserve a free ride.”
“Republicans have options and choices and we need the next generation of leadership that has many of the same policy ideas, but can actually not only win in November, but implement those policy ideas. Trump won't do any of those things: be fiscally responsible, which Trump didn't do, build a wall, which Trump didn't do, put in place the right policies to drain the swamp and get rid of bureaucracy. We did, right? So we want a Republican Party that can deliver results for America, not just talk the talk,” Sununu said.
Haley remained in the race against the former president despite trailing Trump by double digits among Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire. As the Feb. 24 Republican primary in South Carolina approaches, polls appear to show Trump leading the state's former governor by nearly 35 points. according to Go to CBS News.
