Eligible families in Maricopa County will now be able to obtain free diapers from the Maricopa County Department of Human Services. The new diaper bank program will provide more than 700,000 diapers to families in and around Maricopa County.
According to a press release, the county plans to supply about 5,000 children in the county with 150 diapers each month. Funding for diapers was obtained through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Maricopa County Welfare Director Jacqueline Edwards commented on the importance of the diaper bank program.
“We understand the financial burden that families face in providing for their children. With free diapers available through the Diaper Bank, parents can prioritize spending without compromising the health of their children. This diaper bank is just another way Maricopa County is working to provide relief to families,” Edwards said in a written statement.
Who can use the diaper bank?
Maricopa County families living outside the cities of Phoenix, Glendale and Mesa are eligible for the program, according to the county. In addition, eligibility is extended to families participating in Maricopa County’s Head Start program.
Income requirements are also a factor that families must meet, as eligible households must be within 150% of the federal poverty level. 150% of this level equates to an annual income of $37,290 for her family of three, according to Department of Health and Human Services statistics.
Residents interested in this program and wanting to verify their eligibility for the Diaper Bank program should contact the Maricopa County Department of Human Services at 602-372-3700.
