Free diapers now available in Yuma County

Diapers are essential in Arizona

Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Arizona Diaper Pilot Program provides free diapers to qualifying low-income households in Yuma County.

This program is a collaboration with Wildfire, the Arizona Diaper Bank, and community action agencies.

Yuma County residents can get free diapers at the Western Arizona Government Council at 1235 S. Redondo Center Drive. The phone number is 928-782-1886.

Funded by a $1.5 million grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, the effort “expands free diaper distribution throughout the state, increasing access to diapers for low-income households throughout Arizona.” More,” said Kelly McGowan, deputy executive director of WildFire.

A 2017 study by Huggies found that nearly three in five parents who struggled with diaper needs reported an average of four diapers in a given month because they didn’t have enough diapers to send their children to day care or early education programs. He said he missed work and school for days.

The program also connects families to economic mobility and family support services such as job training, educational assistance, early start and housing services.
