Free firearm safety kits distributed throughout Yavapai County
YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. (July 2, 2024) – The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and Gunsite Academy are partnering with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to implement Project ChildSafe, which will provide free firearm safety kits to residents participating in firearm safety education programs across the U.S. The safety kits, which include gun locks, will be distributed from July 2 to September 30, 2024.
Project ChildSafe, a program developed by NSSF, has distributed more than 38 million firearm safety kits nationwide since 2003. The program is supported by the firearms industry, federal and state grants, and donations from the public.
“YCSO is pleased to partner with NSSF and GunSite to further the ChildSafe project,” said Sheriff David Rose. “Protecting and educating children about firearm safety has always been a top priority for law enforcement.”
Gunsite Academy CEO Ken Campbell agrees. “Gunsite has been a national leader in firearm safety and education for almost 50 years. I am familiar with the program having partnered with NSSF to provide gun locks to our citizens when I served as county sheriff. Gunsite is proud to continue working with our local law enforcement partners to make Yavapai County a safe place to live, work and raise children.”
YCSO and Gunsite Academy have partnered with Project ChildSafe to participate in a national effort to promote firearm safety education to all gun owners. Other agencies working with YCSO and Gunsite include the Prescott Police Department and the Prescott Valley Police Department, which will have kits available in their offices.
“We are pleased to have YCSO and Gunsite Academy as partners in Project ChildSafe,” said Project ChildSafe Director Bill Broussard Jr. “Project ChildSafe is an important step toward ensuring all firearm owners fully understand their responsibilities regarding the safe handling and storage of their firearms.”
