GAVIN M. WAX AND TROY M. OLSON: Trump Is Offering The Boldest Tax-Reform Proposal In A Century

Former President Donald Trump is running the most issue-focused campaign in our country's history, and while you wouldn't know it if you were following mainstream media echoes, the 45th president has actually been laying out a detailed and bold policy agenda for over a year.

His latest focus has been tax reform. Tax reform It's the kind of tax cut we saw under President George W. Bush or even in Trump's first term. Today's proposal is at least as significant as President Ronald Reagan's tax cuts of the 1980s, and perhaps the most significant and bold tax reform proposal of this century.

Tax code, federal revenue programs, and market signals reflected the priorities, values, and principles of national policy in the early 20th century. They encouraged hard work, ingenuity, discipline, and self-reliance, and they prioritized local-level community support through close-knit communities and strong families. The dichotomy between what we were and what we are now is not a new development, and was best expressed by the late radio commentator Paul Harvey in a 1965 speech:From freedom to chains.”

Before the 1913 ratification 16th AmendmentThe federal government, which implemented the slippery slope of income taxes, has largely funded itself. Through tariffsTariffs remained the federal government's main source of revenue after World War I. President Trump's proposal: Universal tariff The 10% proposal is not only a natural extension of the protectionist policies of his first term in office, but also the first truly protectionist, pro-tariff proposal by a U.S. president in decades. It signals to America and the world that Trump is a different type of person than other Republicans. On actual policy issues, Trump has also proven to be a more popular figure among Republicans.

Universal Tariff It will fully support our nation's industrial base, promote the reshoring of jobs and reindustrialization of our nation, and lead to the structural changes that fundamentally return American society to these principles. income taxPhasing out the income tax and replacing it with a tax on imports would return our economy to the position that propelled us to world dominance in the early 20th century. Since the passage of the 16th Amendment, personal income taxes have grown as a source of federal revenue along with the growth of the national government itself. Replacing a tax on Americans' hard work with a tax on imports is the heart of America First economic nationalism and would be the most revolutionary economic policy change of this century.

this A broad perspective The US tax reform will be further strengthened by more immediately achievable and economically populist policies,Tips are not taxedPresident Trump announced the “tipping cut” last month during a speech in Las Vegas, Nevada, the tipping capital of the United States. While so-called common sense commentators responded with articles claiming it would cost the federal budget $250 billion, working class Americans, including waiters and waitresses, were quick to point out that the “tipping cut” was a “working class” move. Tax cuts At the time Rising costs for families and householdsAdditionally, Americans across the online X-sphere supported Trump's proposal with generous tipping and messages like “Vote for Trump and there will be no tax on tips.”

“No taxation without representation” was a slogan from the early days of the American Revolution. Today, this nation suffers from excessive taxation of the fruits of our labor and distant, uncaring and unaccountable representation in our federal government.

Just over a century ago, Woodrow Wilson envisioned the country It will go beyond the constraints of the Constitution. We have grown out of it, he argued. Few could have predicted that Wilson's shadow would endure into the next century, but the time has come for America to step out of it once and for all.

Just as the Republican Party under Trump has returned to its pro-tariff, pro-strong currency roots, our country can return to the limited self-government and constitutional government intended by our Founding Fathers. A more humble and effective federal government, funded by tariffs rather than labor taxes, would help stave off the collapse of a century of republicanism. Most politicians would put a room full of scholars to sleep if they brought up the issue of taxation. Now, the only candidate for the nation's highest office, campaigning against brutal legal wars and unjust attacks, has made the case to kitchens and restaurant tables that this issue matters to our lives.

Nine years after he first stepped off the escalator as a citizen, Trump remains focused on the issues facing all Americans and the challenges facing the country, despite the most ad hominem attack on a presidential candidate in American history.
