Maxwell’s Memory on Trump and Epstein’s Birthday Card
Ghislaine Maxwell stated she doesn’t recall President Donald Trump sending a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein in an interview with the Department of Justice (DOJ) released on Friday.
In July, Trump initiated a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal after it reported on a story involving a letter said to have been penned by him for Epstein’s birthday in 2003.
During the interview, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche asked, “Do you remember President Trump submitting letters, cards, or memos?” Maxwell replied, “I won’t.”
She did mention that she had seen a component of a book that was intended as a gift for Epstein’s 50th birthday in a New York case. However, she insisted that the discovery materials did not include any letter from Trump.
“I remember there was a part of that book,” she said, adding that she was surprised about the absence of Trump’s letters. “It was puzzling because I wondered where the rest of it was. There was no mention of Mr. Trump.”
Maxwell acknowledged difficulty in recalling whether Trump actually wrote the letter.
Later in the interview, she was presented with a letter from a birthday book attributed to her in 2003 but also didn’t remember writing it.
“It looks like my handwriting and my name, but I don’t remember writing it at all,” Maxwell noted.
She expressed concerns that not all discovery materials had been shown to her, implying that important evidence may have been withheld from her.
Trump has consistently denied writing any letters to Epstein, stating, “I have never painted my life. I never painted women. It’s not my language.”
Additionally, he claimed that both the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch had warned him that the letters attributed to him were false and that legal action would follow if they were published.
The DOJ made Maxwell’s interview available on its website on July 24th and July 25th.
