Gila County far behind other counties in giving naloxone to people who are overdosing

Narcan is a naloxone nasal spray that can be administered during an opioid overdose to reverse the effects.

The opioid epidemic in the United States became apparent several years ago, prompting public policy experts and legislators at the federal and state levels to take action.

In Arizona, efforts to resolve the issue were even bipartisan, as signed by Gov. Doug Ducey. Arizona Opioid Epidemic Act January 2018.

Some progress has been reported as the fight against the epidemic is funded and an increasing number of law enforcement officers are trained on how to combat overdoses by injecting naloxone into the afflicted.
