Give Alabama a Voice praises House passage of gaming bill

On Thursday, the Alabama House of Representatives approved HB 151 and HB 152, which will allow Alabamians to vote on establishing a comprehensive gaming package.

Dalton Dismukes, president of the grassroots advocacy group Alabama A Voice, said the bill's overwhelming passage in the House is an important milestone in the effort to bring revenue to the state, but there are still many steps to be taken. He reminded supporters that much remains to be done.

“The passage of the Comprehensive Gaming Package by the Alabama House of Representatives is historic for the state of Alabama, and we are committed to providing significant new funding for public education and improved access to residents in every city, town, and intersection. We are optimistic about good service,” Dismukes said.

“We applaud the 70 members of the House of Representatives for taking this important first step toward Alabama's future. But the fight is still far from complete. Until gaming is legalized in Alabama , much work remains. We must continue to advocate for a legalized and safe form of gaming to our members in both houses of Congress,” Dismukes concluded.

Research shows the game could have a significant economic impact on Alabama. By shutting down illegal gaming operations, licensing a limited number of legal facilities, and tightly regulating the industry, Alabama would generate up to $400 million for schools and state services. Additionally, the creation of the lottery could add an additional $200 million to the state budget.

Give Alabama A Voice is the state's most active and high-profile advocacy organization working on gaming issues in Alabama. The group is airing television ads across the state and is also engaged in its most aggressive digital campaign since its inception.
