GoFundMe For Trump Rally Shooting Victims Raises More Than $2 Million In 14 Hours

A GoFundMe campaign raising money for victims of the shooting at former President Donald Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has raised more than $2 million in 14 hours, according to the fundraising site.

The fundraiser, titled “Support for Victims of Butler PA – Endorsed by President Trump,” was launched by Meredith O'Rourke, national financial director for the Trump campaign. The fundraiser had raised more than $2.4 million by Sunday afternoon, surpassing its $1 million goal. according to To the donation site.

“President Donald Trump has authorized this account as a venue for donations to the supporters and families injured or killed in today's brutal and horrific assassination attempt,” the GoFundMe campaign description reads. “All donations will be sent to proud Americans as they grieve and heal. The site claims that more than 25,000 people have donated since the fundraising campaign began. GoFundMe donation records show that many celebrities have given large sums, including UFC president Dana White who donated $50,000, musician Kid Rock who donated $50,000, former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswami who donated $30,000, and Daily Wire host Ben Shapiro who donated $15,000.

Former Buffalo volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore died while trying to protect his family at the rally, his family said in a Facebook post. Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement Sunday that the other two victims were David Duch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, and both were in stable condition.

“He was a hero who protected his daughters. His wife and daughters survived the unimaginable and unthinkable,” Dawn Comperatore Schafer, Corey Comperatore's sister, said on Facebook. “My brother just turned 50 and had so much more to experience in life. Hate knows no bounds, love knows no bounds. Please pray for my sister-in-law, niece, my mother, my sister, me, and his niece and nephew. This feels like a terrible nightmare but it is our painful reality.”

Trump was shot on Saturday and suffered wounds to his right ear and cheek, but his campaign said he is expected to recover.

The FBI identified the gunman as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks fired the shots from an “elevated position” on the roof of a building, about 400 feet from Trump. according to According to the New York Times, the Secret Service neutralized the suspect shortly after Trump was shot.
