‘Going Down?’: Top Democrats Reportedly Anxious About Harris’ Election Chances

According to Axios, leading Democrats are concerned about Vice President Kamala Harris’ odds of winning on November 5, with most polls showing the presidential race as close.

With less than two weeks left, Democratic leaders are already debating who is to blame for former President Donald Trump’s loss. Who didn’t withdraw from the race sooner, the Vice President or President Joe Biden? Axios The report was based on conversations with members of his campaign and senior Biden administration officials. Democrats told Axios they were concerned that the vice president was not defining himself enough and making too many different claims against Trump in the shortened campaign.

“She is what she is,” one longtime Democratic strategist told the outlet. “Let’s hope that’s enough.”

“Is it going down?” a Democratic official texted to Axios.

The Harris campaign is concerned about the vice president’s chances of winning in the “blue wall” states, especially Michigan, which has a prominent Muslim community, three people familiar with the campaign’s strategy said. said NBC News. Democratic leaders are concerned that the vice president hasn’t made a strong enough case for why he should become president, but many people were surprised by the line he used during Wednesday’s CNN town hall. Axios reported that he was impressed.

“Imagine the Oval Office three months from now…it’s either Donald Trump simmering there or he’s simmering! — His Enemies List, or About Me, I’m going to work for you and check things off my to-do list,” Harris said.

“Better late than never,” one Democratic official told Axios, with another lawmaker adding: we are not dead yet. ”

At the same town hall, the vice president cited comments made by former chief of staff John Kelly to The New York Times and The Atlantic in which he said he believed Trump was a fascist. Earlier in the day, Harris said Kelly claimed Trump would rule like a fascist, said Hitler “did some good things” and wanted a general like the Nazi dictator. I made an off-the-cuff remark about the article.

The Trump campaign denies both stories.

The Atlantic also claimed that Trump disrespected fallen veterans and their families. Former officials, the Trump campaign, families of veterans, and lawyers all went on record denying the story.

“All of this is further evidence to the American people of who Donald Trump really is,” Harris said of the reports. “This is a window into who Donald Trump really is from the people who know him best. From the people who worked with him in the Oval Office and the Situation Room.

“From John Kerry’s words, it is clear that Donald Trump is someone who ‘certainly fits the general definition of a fascist’: a man who has vowed to be a dictator from day one, enacting personal and political vendettas. “This is a man who has vowed to use the military as a private militia for the sake of his people,” she continued.

In the final weeks of the campaign, Harris’ message shifted to criticizing Trump and the threat he posed to the nation. Biden’s campaign message was similarly centered around calling Trump a threat to democracy. Axios reported that before the president ended his bid for the White House, Democratic leaders and some of Biden’s inner circle questioned the “threat to democracy” slogan.

Harris is poised to deliver closing arguments on the new leadership on Tuesday at the same venue where President Trump spoke before the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. According to Go to NBC News.
