Golf tournament fundraiser to support Maricopa County animals in need

Chandler, AZ (AZFamily) — Cooler weather is finally here in the Valley, which means golf season is upon us. This weekend, you can hit the green while helping local animal shelters.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and the East Side Elves will host a “Party for Pups” golf tournament on Saturday. Lone Tree Golf Club In Chandler.

“Our primary role is to provide enrichment items, collars and leashes to shelters in Maricopa County,” East Side Elves founder Julie Lux said. “Unfortunately, the majority of our support is for shelters in the east, but we do occasionally help shelters in the west as well.”

This will be the sixth year for the golf tournament fundraiser, Laux said, and the event will also feature a raffle and silent auction.

She said more teams still needed to apply as of Wednesday morning.

Kim Powell with MCACC said help is desperately needed as shelters remain over capacity.

“We're well over capacity right now,” Powell said. “Today is the first day of our no-fee adoption events. There's no fee for dogs over six months old, but we're getting creative to get these dogs to new homes. Part of that creativity is hosting off-site adoption events like this 'Par-tee For Pups.'”

Powell said there will be dogs available for adoption at the golf tournament and people can apply to volunteer or become foster parents.
