GOP’s Jerry Sheridan elected as Maricopa County Sheriff: AP projection

The Associated Press projects Republican candidate Jerry Sheridan to win in the race for the next Maricopa County sheriff.

Sheridan’s predicted victory marks the first time in several years that a Republican candidate has won this race. The last Republican, Joe Arpaio, lost to Democrat Paul Penzone in 2016.

However, with incumbent Russ Skinner losing the primary to Tyler Kampf, it was certain that Maricopa County would have a new sheriff regardless of the winner. When Skinner became sheriff Mr. Penzone resigns.

This is Sheridan’s second time running for MCSO’s top position, and he was also the Republican candidate in the 2020 race. Sheridan started as a volunteer at the age of 18 and held many other positions within MCSO.
