Safford-Graham County leadership has cut property tax rates for the fifth year in a row. Although the tax rate will be lower, property tax revenues will still increase due to higher property valuations.
In 2019, property owners paid $2.99 per $1,000 appraisal. The owner of a home valued at $150,000 in 2019 paid Graham County $448.50 in taxes. The proposed Graham County tax rate for 2023-2024 is $2.22 per $1,000. For a $150,000 home, he will have $333.00 in taxes for 2023-2024. This 25% reduction was made possible thanks to good management, conservative fiscal policies, increased property values across the county, new housing construction, increased business and mining activity, and a healthy local economy. On average, about a quarter of property tax bills go to Graham County, with the rest going to local schools, community colleges, fire districts and irrigation districts.
The Graham County Board of Supervisors will meet to determine the proposed $2.22 tax rate on August 7, 2023. Even if the tax rate is lower, the countywide valuation increase means that the proposed new tax rate will result in more funding overall than last year. Arizona law considers this to be a tax increase, and Graham County will hold a “Truth Tax Hearing” for the public to comment and ask questions on August 7, 2023 at 9 am. The “Truth Tax Notice” will be published in local newspapers on July 22, 2023 and he on July 29, 2023.
