Grant Sexton Places 12th at Kern County – Heads to Arizona This Saturday

Grant Sexton made his first appearance in a 410 Sprint car on the dirt track at Kern County Raceway Park when the USAC/CRA Series visited last Saturday night. Teen racer started at age 15th and ends at 12th In the main of 30 laps. In doing so, he extended his lead in the Rookie of the Year standings heading into racing at his raceway in the Mojave Valley this week.

The 2021 POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Series champion clocked 15.413 laps in qualifying.it was 15th Fastest session time. In his race with his nine cars, the 18-year-old of Lakeside, California, started his eighth place. When 10 his lapper finished, he took the checkered flag in his 7th place.

For the second week in a row, Sexton was impressive in the 30-lap main event.come from his fifteenth-At the start, he moved the bottom like a seasoned pro. With his 10 laps to go, he overtook eight of his cars and finished seventh, the same Kings he finished a week earlier at the Speedway.Unfortunately a hole in turn 1 caught him late in the race and sent him back to 12thHe moved up five places at the Kings, but this race may have been more impressive as he overtook seven cars before the Turn 1 cavity took its toll.

Sexton remains 11th in the USAC/CRA series standings. Coming into the race at Mojave this weekend, he’s just 5 out of 10.th It was 16th out of 9th. Plus, he has a comfortable 114-point lead in the Rookie of the Year Chase.

After this Saturday, Sexton Gatlin Racing will take a week off and patriarch Brent Sexton and eldest son Dalton will take part in the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint at Barona Speedway on May 13th.thBrent, the defending SWLS champion, will enter that race as the points leader. The following week, Grant resumes his activities on May 20 at “California’s Worst Bullring”, the Thunderbowl racetrack in Tulea.thA week later, on May 27th, the entire team gathers at Perris Auto Speedway.th Annual salute to Indy. That night, Grant battles in his USAC/CRA while Brent and Dalton famously face off against his other SWLS stars on his half-mile clay his oval.
