Group of Thieves Break into Jewelry Store. Police Quickly Detain Several Suspects

Jewelry Heist in San Ramon: Seven Arrested After $1 Million Theft

Authorities have detained seven individuals following a brazen theft at a jewelry store in California on Monday, where around 20 masked thieves made off with an estimated $1 million in valuables.

Surveillance video captured the moment Heller’s Jewelers was targeted at a popular location known as Bishop’s Ranch in San Ramon. The thieves reportedly smashed a display case using tools before hastily gathering the jewelry. They also fired shots to break through security doors, then fled in six getaway cars parked nearby.

“What happened was that once the thieves entered, the door shut behind them,” noted Mike Pistello from the San Ramon Police Department.

The police were alerted quickly, and although officers pursued the criminals, the chase was called off for safety reasons when speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour.

Drone technology assisted law enforcement by recording the suspects and their vehicles as they escaped, with air support following their path through Contra Costa and Alameda counties.

So far, police have arrested three adults and a teenager in Oakland, and three additional suspects were caught in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing, as detectives continue to track down more individuals involved.

“Such incidents are rare in San Ramon,” Pistello commented. “We’re working diligently to follow up on every lead we can.”
