Guest Column | County Corner: Property taxes explained | Kingman Daily Miner

As the Mojave County Treasurer, I would like to address concerns that primarily affect new homebuyers.

In early August of each year, the accounting firm receives an electronic file from the Assessor’s Office that contains the property valuation, classification, and mailing address of the property owner. Due to his mid-July deadline for updating the address and ownership, the data file will be completed by the evaluator and submitted to the accounting firm in a timely manner.

This means that new property owners who complete their purchases after June may not receive their September property tax statements, depending on the volume of property transactions. If the property tax was not paid through escrow, it will become delinquent after November 1st and the first notice the new property owner will receive is her June delinquency notice.

Interest, fines, and fees will be charged against your account for delinquent property taxes.

Arizona’s revised law does not give treasurers legal authority to waive interest, fines, or fees. This affects her less than 1% of new homebuyers, but everyone should be aware.

New and existing property owners should visit the Department of Treasury’s website at www.mohave.gov or call 928-753-0737 to verify that their property tax bills have been paid.

If you do not receive your property tax statement in late September, please visit our website to obtain an electronic copy and submit your payment by the late tax deadline.

Mojave County property tax invoices are based on a calendar year (January 1 through December 31), with the first installment due October 1.

If your property tax bill is over $100, you can pay the tax in two installments. The first time he is due on October 1st and will be in arrears after November 1st. The second time he is due on March 1st and will be delinquent after May 1st.

Tax invoices under $100 will be delinquent if not paid by December 31st.
