‘GUILTY’: Alabama GOP elected officials react to Hunter Biden verdict

Jurors in Hunter Biden's gun trial found him guilty on Tuesday of all three federal charges related to his gun purchase in 2018. The president's son was found guilty of making false statements on a gun application and possessing a gun while being a drug user.

“As I said last week, I'm president, but I'm also a father,” President Joe Biden said of the sentence. “Jill and I love our son and are so proud of the man he has become.”

Alabama's Republican caucus responded to the news on Tuesday.

“Recall that President Biden's Department of Justice tried to give Hunter Biden a sweet deal with complete immunity,” wrote Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise). “A federal judge exposed it, and now he has been convicted.”

Moore was referring to a possible plea deal in the case, which fell apart last year after a federal judge expressed concerns about the terms of the agreement.

Rep. Jerry Carl, R-Mobile, said the sentence “only scratches the surface of what's going on in the Biden crime family.”

Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) reposted an X-page statement from the House Republican Oversight Committee that accused the Biden administration of corruption at the Justice Department.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) reposted social media comments from defense attorney Bernie Moreno, who argued that Hunter received a light sentence.

“The laptop is real,” Moreno said. “The Biden family corruption is real. Instead of indicting the Bidens at the core of their corruption, they chose to indict Hunter for something that has nothing to do with foreign business so they can isolate and protect the big guy.”
