South Baldwin County Mayors Meet with Senators
The mayors from South Baldwin County gathered on July 29 with U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, facilitated by the Gulf Integrated Metro Business Agency (Gumbo), to discuss key issues such as infrastructure, tourism, and sustainable growth.
“People come from all over to enjoy Alabama’s beaches along the Gulf,” Tuberville remarked. “Baldwin County keeps flourishing, thanks to its stunning beaches and friendly atmosphere. Last year, 8.4 million visitors brought in $7.8 billion, and we aim to equip local leaders with the necessary resources to support tourism and responsible development along the Gulf Coast.”
Britt acknowledged the impressive summer season and expressed her commitment to the region’s ongoing prosperity.
“With our economy expanding under President Trump’s guidance, it’s truly gratifying to witness Alabamians and visitors enjoying prosperous coastal communities,” Britt stated. “I remain dedicated to bolstering infrastructure and conservation along the Gulf. I’m proud to collaborate with local leaders and federal partners to enhance opportunities and fortify our nation moving forward.”
South Baldwin County has experienced a 7.2% yearly rise in accommodation revenue, and with record visitor numbers, the mayor emphasized the balancing act of handling rapid growth while preserving quality of life. Foley Mayor Ralph Helmitch noted the area’s allure for new residents.
“We boast affordable, quality living,” Helmitch shared. “Indicators suggest our region will keep growing, and by teaming up with distinguished leaders like Senators Tuberville and Britt, we can create solutions that benefit our residents, cities, and state.”
Ranked as Alabama’s eighth fastest-growing city, the Gulf Coast is witnessing increased demand for air travel through the Gulf Coast International Airport, which is already making adjustments and adding flights to newly announced key destinations.
“We want to thank Sen. Tuberville and Sen. Britt for their steadfast support for our city and their ongoing interest in matters important to our residents,” expressed Gulf Mayor Robert Kraft. “They truly understand the beauty and significance of our coast and the vital role they play in promoting tourism statewide. Together, we can tackle challenges and develop solutions to help our communities continue acting as Alabama’s economic engine.”
Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon also stressed the need to preserve the region’s character while looking toward the future.
“Life here is really great. By fostering personal relationships with the senators, we’re working hard to ensure that protecting our quality of life remains a priority for our community,” Kennon said. “People here appreciate our beautiful white sand beaches, delicious food, and all the recreational activities the Gulf offers. Senators Tuberville and Britt have been wonderful friends to Baldwin County since they began their terms.”
Gumbo reiterated its commitment to representing South Baldwin County at the federal level, reinforcing the partnership between local leadership and Washington officials.
