The Lake Havasu City branch of the Mojave County Library may add drive-up return boxes for borrowed books as early as May, according to county officials.
The book drop includes last month’s proposal by Librarian Director Jake Barillaro and a donation of $7,443 to that cause by one patron of the Havasu Library. The Mojave County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to allow the funds to be used to purchase return boxes.
According to county records, the return box will cost the library district $7,141.17, according to an estimate by California-based Jackson Manufacturers, Inc., which provides new amenities for the library in Havasu.
The drive-up return box will be installed on the curb in front of the library near the south exit of the library. Barillaro said on Thursday that BookDrop could go live within the next six to eight weeks.
Barillaro said in a statement last week that the library’s new drive-up return boxes will provide convenience for patrons who may suffer from physical limitations while also allowing other patrons to drive during the region’s hot summers. so you don’t have to get off the
“I thought it was necessary,” donor Mike Delaney, 78, said last week. “I am an avid reader. There are many people in Havasu. Many are retired, many are disabled. Getting out of their car is not something we need to do. .”
Barillaro was unable to give an exact estimate of when the project would be completed as of Thursday.
