Journalist Mark Halperin suggested Thursday that former President Donald Trump’s decision to skip an interview on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” could be a politically wise move.

“The polls are very clear on this point, and the anecdotes are very clear. She has to show people what she’s all about. People don’t know what Donald Trump is saying. I know. So skipping “60 Minutes” doesn’t really cost him anything. Is the pool bad? That’s true, but that’s the reality,” Halperin said. “He can afford not to do that. And that’s true for at least one reason, which is that, as I said, people don’t know much about her. And that’s true if Trump is in the ascendancy. That also applies, right? If he is in the lead, it would be cheating to agree to something that could result in him losing the lead.”
Harris has been involved in a recent friendly media blitz, appearing on “Call Her Daddy,” “The View,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “The Howard Stern Show.” In contrast, he faced severe scrutiny during an interview on “60 Minutes.” ” CBS News’ Bill Whitaker pressed Harris on her many policy failures, her vague economic plan and the border.
The network also appears to have individually edited Harris’ responses to questions about the Israel-Hamas war to make them more concise and less confusing.

CNN correspondent Priscilla Alvarez said: “There is certainly a lot of anxiety and tension as we get closer to Election Day, and the polls remain deadlocked.”
