David Hogg’s Call for Gun Control After Minneapolis Shooting
David Hogg, an activist against gun violence, criticized President Donald Trump during a CNN appearance on Thursday. He described Trump as a “co-sick” and urged him to act on gun control reforms.
This follow-up comes after a tragic incident at the Announcement Catholic School in Minneapolis, where a shooter killed two children and injured at least 17 others before taking his own life. Hogg suggested that Trump should push for changes at organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health to help prevent such shootings in the future.
“The bottom line is that Trump has the ability to make a difference. After Parkland, he’s made repeated claims, yet here we are. It’s frustrating to think he met with the NRA and nothing changed. Why is that? It seems he’s just… co-sick,” Hogg said.
He added, “My message to Trump is clear: you’re co-sick. The reality is you haven’t tackled this issue because you’re afraid of the NRA, even though you have the power to save countless lives.” Hogg went on to note that Trump could be one of the most influential presidents in recent history.
Reflecting on the Parkland shooting on February 14, 2018, Hogg mentioned that various law enforcement agencies had failed to stop shooter Nicholas Cruz before the tragedy unfolded.
Recent figures highlighted that the NRA contributed $868,651 during the 2024 election cycle, placing them high among political organizations.
During the CNN segment, there was also a miscommunication from senior correspondent Evan Perez, who inaccurately described how a semi-automatic firearm operates while discussing the Minneapolis shooting.
Reports indicate that the shooter, identified as transgender, had previously posted videos online expressing violent sentiments towards Trump. This detail has led to varied terminology being used by different media outlets.
The White House has yet to respond to requests for clarification on these matters.
