White House AI & Crypto Czar David Sacks appeared on Fox News on Monday, saying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a hidden motive to not reconcile with the United States.
Appearing in “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Sacks said Zelenskyy had the motivation to perpetuate the conflict in Ukraine. He suggests that peace undermines Zelensky’s power.
“I think Zelenskyy has a strong motivation to not make peace. He really doesn’t want to make peace. He says that war needs to continue. He basically says that war needs to last forever. And I think there’s a good reason for that in his mind. Number one, if the war ends, he loses power,” Sachs said. “He canceled the election there. He is in his fifth and sixth year, and a five-year term. And if he stands for election, he is very unpopular there despite what a fake poll from USAID says. And he will be vulnerable to local retaliation from his political opponents.”
Sack also mentioned the financial aspects of the ongoing war. Thousands of billions of US dollars have flowed into Ukraine, with a substantial portion reportedly enriching small circles of elites and oligarchs, with Zelensky at the top.
“He needs this war to justify his rule, so I think it’s number one. If he gives up on power, his own safety is at risk. The second is the gravy train here. So we’ve sent hundreds of millions of dollars there to Ukraine and these Ukrainian elites. These oligarchs are feasting on that money,” Sachs said. “And Zelenskyy is at the top of that pyramid. And, as a whole, when the war ends, that whole glyft ends. And I think it gives him a strong incentive to continue doing all this.”
Sacks said Zelensky’s approach during his meeting with President Donald Trump in the oval office was characterized by rights and content, and could have caused a major change in U.S. policy. (Related: Brithume says Zelensky missed the mark, elliptical meetings are not a time of public conflict)
“Zelenskyy had one job. All he had to do was show up, pay respect, sign a mineral trade and shake hands for the camera,” Sachs told Jesse Watters. “Instead, he turned out to be, and he acted like an actor playing Winston Churchill, not Churchill. He was spoiled and acted like a Hollywood actor. He did the entitled behavior. He acted ungrateful. He acted peavish, petulant, combative.”
This behavior is a seemingly backfire, as Sacks predicts that Zelenskyy will have to come back raw.
“Of course he’ll have to come and offer an apology, but I think he believes them when someone shows you who they are. So there’s no way to deal with guys like Zelenskyy,” Sacks said. “I’m not saying we shouldn’t deal with him, but I think Zelensky has a strong motivation to not make peace. He really doesn’t want to make peace.”
The US suspended all military aid to Ukraine, including arms, as it has withheld President Trump’s assessment of the Ukrainian president’s commitment to peace after rejecting Zelensky from the White House on Friday.
