Jim Jones, deputy human food director for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), resigned from office from Monday night amid gusts of FDA shooting, Food Fix first reported.
His decision follows the layoffs of thousands of Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and thousands of FDA workers over the weekend. According to Outlet.
Jones cited the Trump administration’s “indiscrimination” in a letter to FDA committee member Sarah Brenner, who wrote 89 food department employees. Get By Bloomberg
“I was looking forward to pursuing the sector’s agenda to improve American health by reducing the risks from diet-related chronic diseases and chemicals in food,” he writes.
He cited the “slight” to Trump administration workers, adding that “it’s fruitless for me to continue this role,” Bloomberg reported.
The FDA falls within the HHS range and is now overseen by newly minted HHS secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. For example, he criticizes the use of seed oil in American foods, claiming it is “one of the driving causes of the obesity pandemic.”
Trump quickly moved to place RFK Jr. on top of the committee. This examines the role of nutrition in the worsening chronic disease outbreak in America, among many others. (Related: DHS cuts more than 400 employees)
