Republican Primary in Alabama Results
Voters in Alabama’s House of Representatives held a special primary election on Tuesday, effectively choosing representatives for the upcoming term.
Heath Albright, a businessman, farmer, and former school board member from Kalman County, emerged as the victor, defeating former Army Colonel Don Farin amid a backdrop of intense campaigning and negative advertisements.
By the end of the night, with most precincts reporting, Albright had secured approximately 54.76% of the vote, while Farin garnered 45.24%.
Farin faced significant support in several precincts of Kalman County, but Albright’s performance in Blount County and his strong showing in Kalman County ultimately led him to a decisive win.
“I’m deeply honored to earn the trust of voters in District 11,” Albright remarked after his win. “I’m ready to advocate for my family, schools, and businesses, and I’m committed to ensuring our community thrives while valuing what makes Blount and Kalman counties special.”
Albright, a lifelong Holly Pond resident and owner of Brighton Forestry Services, ran on a platform emphasizing tax cuts, small business support, and rural Alabama protection.
The seat became vacant after State Representative Randall Shedd resigned in February to take on a new role as director of constituency affairs for Senate Speaker Pro Tem Gugger.
District HD11 encompasses areas of both Kalman and Blount counties, including The Snead, Oneonta, Hanceville, and Blountsville.
Albright is set to face Democratic challengers in the special general election scheduled for August 26, 2025. This district has historically leaned Republican; Shedd, who secured his seat during a 2013 special election, faced no opposition in subsequent elections.
Governor Ainsworth, an early supporter of Albright’s campaign, celebrated the victory shortly after the votes were tallied on Tuesday night.
“Congratulations to Heath Albright on winning the Republican nomination for House District 11. As a husband, father, and small business owner, Heath understands the challenges faced by Alabamians, and I am confident he will be a strong, conservative voice in the House.”
Alabama Republican Party chair John Wahl expressed his commitment to electing conservative and effective leaders.
“Congratulations to Heath Albright on winning the Republican nomination for House District 11. We’re thankful for both candidates and all the voters who engaged in this crucial election,” Wahl stated. “Amid the various challenges facing our state, it’s vital that we continue electing leaders who uphold conservative values and advocate for the people of Alabama. We look forward to supporting Heath as he moves toward the general election in August.”
