Officers at the New York Police Department (NYPD) face rebound after the video appears to be showing him playing basketball as a nearby home is engulfed in flames.
The video appears to show an officer shooting the ball towards the hoop. When the video pans, the balls miss the basket and the house can be seen in the flames in the background.
“His actions were condemned during such a disaster,” the police officer admitted to anonymity. I said New York Post. “The firefighters risked their lives. Did he think it was a good idea to shoot a hoop in such a tragedy?”
The obvious incident occurred at a Brooklyn home, where authorities discovered that the first floor fire “escalated rapidly to a fourth alarm due to strong winds.” According to New York City Fire Station (FDNY). The official whose identity remains unknown was criticized for comments in a video posted to Instagram.
“It’s devilish to hoop while the house is burning,” the user commented, accumulating over 27,000 “likes.”
“Unprofessional shit,” another commented, followed by some laughing emojis.
“[I]I make this and I’ll save them,” another user joked.
“Average real realistic video [average] Police officers in a house fire,” another commenter wrote.
Others speculated that individuals may not have had much help as he didn’t look like a firefighter.
“In other words[,] He is a police officer and there’s nothing he actually can do about the fire,” an Instagram user said.
The NYPD posted that they knew the video and told them the situation remains during internal review.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to daily caller requests for comment.
