Now Governor-elect Katie Hobbs and Maricopa County are seeking sanctions against Lake and her team. Both parties called for sanctions on Monday morning, the day after Christmas.
“Before one vote was counted in the 2022 general election, Kari Lake publicly stated that she would only accept the results of the gubernatorial election if she was the winner,” read a statement from the county.
“But she didn’t simply deny the results of the election publicly. Instead, she made unsubstantiated accusations against the incoming governor, secretary of state, Maricopa County, and some of its elected officials and employees.” We filed a 70-page election lawsuit (but not other counties or their employees), thereby dragging them and this court into this frivolous pursuit.”

In response, Lake’s attorneys are asking the court to deny the sanction request, arguing that plaintiffs should not be penalized for bringing “legitimate” allegations about the election to court.
