Katie Hobbs made her first visit to Yuma County as governor on Monday. Governor Hobbes toured the border and met with producers.
Hobbs started the AG tour early Monday morning, visiting both ports of call in San Luis.
Hobbes also inspected part of the border fence. At Yuma City Hall, she is represented by Yuma Mayor Doug Nichols, San Luis Mayor Nieves Riedel, Somerton Mayor Gerald Anaya, Yuma City Councilman Carol Smith, Yuma County Supervisor Martin Porchas, and Tony Reyes. , met with local elected officials, including Lynn Panklage.
Hobbes also met with farmers at the Yuma Center of Excellence for Desert Agriculture before ending the day at a nonprofit in Somerton.
Hobbes said he had heard from Yuma County leaders about last week’s House Judiciary Committee hearing on Yuma border security.
“What I’ve heard from leaders is that they’re frustrated with the image of the community here being painted,” Hobbes told KAWC. “
Hobbes also met with Campesinos Sin Fronteras staff and toured the Migrant Transfer Center at the Border Health Regional Center in Somerton.
At RCBH, Hobbs met with CEO Amanda Aguirre. Amanda Aguirre met with local, state, and national elected officials about the assistance they offer immigrants, including COVID testing and travel planning.
