MSNBC Host Denies Booing Claims Against Trump
On Sunday, MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle dismissed a report from Rolling Stone that claimed a crowd at the US Open, while showing former President Donald Trump on arena screens, repeatedly booed him.
According to the article, attendees and the national anthem could reportedly hear the booing. However, Ruhle asserted she didn’t notice any booing during the event. She also mentioned that the delays surrounding Trump’s appearance were not significant enough to impact the audience’s experience.
“I was there. I didn’t see him being booed. The delay wasn’t a big deal. That day was about great tennis. The president was there too,” Ruhle posted on social media.
The Rolling Stone article seemed to reference statements made by two users on Bluesky, a left-leaning social platform. One user claimed, “There was an audible booing and some light applause,” which seemed to fuel claims of a negative reception.
Historically, Rolling Stone has faced scrutiny over its reporting. In 2014, the magazine published a controversial piece titled “A Rape on Campus,” which recounted an alleged assault at the University of Virginia. The story was later retracted, leading to significant backlash and a defamation lawsuit. UVA ultimately settled with Rolling Stone for $3 million in 2017.
This pattern of errant reporting raises questions about the credibility of claims when it comes to event coverage, particularly regarding public figures.
