James Biden's closed-door Congressional testimony on February 21 contradicted testimony given by both Hunter Biden and Hunter's former business associate Tony Bobulinski.
James Biden met with Hunter, Bobulinski and Joe Biden at a California hotel during a 2017 Milken Institute meeting, according to a February transcript of testimony before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. It is stated that there was no meeting at all. However, Hunter Biden testified that he, James, Bobulinski, and his father actually met at the hotel bar during Wednesday's stay. testimony Before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees.
Hunter Biden testified that Bobulinski and his uncle were having coffee at a hotel bar at 11 p.m. while waiting for a meeting with Joe Biden. Hunter testified that when Joe Biden arrived, he shook Bobulinski's hand and the two spoke. (Related: Republican says Hunter Biden went 'insane' when threatening Chinese business associates)
Hunter couldn't remember the details of Bobulinski's conversation with his father, other than that they talked about Bobulinski's family suffering from cancer.
Bobulinski claims to remember details of the conversation.
According to Bobulinski's Feb. 13 testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Joe Biden met with the three to discuss business deals related to CEFC China Energy, a Chinese Communist Party-affiliated company. Bobulinski said “the only reason I was there” was to discuss business with the Bidens.
Joe Biden claimed in August 2023 that he had never “spoken business” with Hunter's colleagues.

Asked about his alleged conversation with Joe Biden, James Biden said, “I know that didn't happen.”
James Biden “could have been there with Tony Bobulinski” and “Hunter could have been there,” but Joe Biden “was never there,” he claimed.
James Biden had previously denied having anything to do with Hunter's dealings with CEFC China Energy, but his signature was listed alongside investigators with Hunter Biden and his business associates. When I showed him a copy of the contract, he changed his mind.
According to Bobulinski's testimony, James Biden dismissed possible reputational damage to his family from business dealings with China, citing “plausible deniability.”
