A Mountain Brook teen who was attacked by a shark last Friday has begun the recovery process, her mother wrote.
“Today is Sunday June 9th 2024. I wanted to share Lulu Gribbin's story so everyone can continue to pray for our sweet beautiful child,” Ann Blair Gribbin posted. At CaringBridgeIt is a platform for sharing health news with family and friends.
The post detailed Friday's incident off the coast of Seacrest Beach, Florida, and offered thanks to the group of people who pulled Lulu from the water.
“Lulu said the man grabbed his other arm and pulled him up, and the other boy helped him to shore,” the post read. “Once on shore, Lulu was surrounded by two doctors and two young women, one of whom was a nurse. They applied a tourniquet to his wound, which I believe was crucial in saving his life.”

Local media: WFLA Interviewed Muhammad Ali and Ryan Forbes were vacationing doctors who were part of the group that treated Gribbin on the beach.
“It's like we've been working with them for years,” Forbes said. “It's been amazing. In a way … it was God's will for everyone to help each other at the same time.”
Gribbin was rushed to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, where he was immediately put into surgery. Doctors told Gribbin's family that they would have to amputate his left hand and half of his right leg. Gribbin was expected to be breathing through a tube for a week, but was taken off the tube the following afternoon.
“[The next day] “Lulu did not have the surgery we had anticipated and her vital signs were exactly as the team of doctors and nurses had hoped,” her mother wrote. “She was doing very well, the tube was removed from her throat and she was breathing on her own, which was a big first step.”
“Once she calmed down, the first thing she said to us was, 'I did it,' and she really did.”
Ann Blair has asked people to pray for Lulu, the Gribbin family and the young girls who were in the water at the time of the attack.
“Please continue to pray for Lulu,” the post read. “Pray that she will have the strength to endure whatever comes her way. Pray that she will recover quickly and with minimal pain.”
“I know this was a terrible accident, but God was there and there were people who saved her life. Lulu said she felt God in the back of the truck on the beach. She is truly a miracle. We have a long way to go and our journey has only just begun!”
