CNN political analyst Paul Begala said Friday that supporters of President Joe Biden are concerned after the president gave an impromptu speech Thursday night addressing claims about mental acuity. He said that
Special Counsel Robert Hur released a report Thursday that concluded that Biden knowingly possessed classified information covering important national security issues, but declined to file criminal charges against the president. Ta. according to his report. If Biden goes to trial, Hoare said, “I think he will come before the jury as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory, just like he was when we interviewed him.”
Hoare also said that it would be “difficult to convince a jury that a former president, already in his 80s, should be convicted of serious felonies that require intentional insanity.” .
Biden defended his mental strength and denied that his handling of the documents broke any laws.
“How much bedwetting do you think the Democratic Party is…and if you were the White House, how would you alleviate that bedwetting?” CNN's John Berman asked Ms. Begala.
“Oh yeah. Look, I'm a Biden supporter, but I slept like a baby last night. I woke up every two hours crying and wet the bed,” he replied. “This is terrible for the Democratic Party, and anyone with a functioning brain knows that. But what you're doing is instead of holding a press conference and saying, 'I'm really sharp.' Then, they attack the other person.”
“You know, Joe Biden gave us a strategy in 2012. I remember, he was vice president and he said, 'Don't compare us to the Almighty, compare us to the alternative.' ” Begala added. “So everything about Biden has to be, 'My opponent is really toxic, dangerous, and a threat,' rather than, 'I'm great.'”
“John is right. This is going to be a really rough, ugly, unpleasant campaign,” he continued. “A few years ago, David Duke, a former Klansman, was running for governor against Edwin Edwards, who has been indicted, indicted and convicted of numerous crimes. [sic]. Edwin won the election with a bumper sticker that read “Vote for the Cheaters.” That's important. They have to tell Democrats to “vote for the old people.” Please support the elderly. That's important. ”
“So, do you think they had a blowout last night? Just to be clear, do you think it was a mistake to let him out last night?” Berman asked. (Related article: 'It's true': CNN host Phil Mattingly ends Democratic Sen. Dan Goldman's defense of Biden's memory gaffe)
“No, I want to see more of Joe Biden. Gaffes are built in. But instead of just saying, 'I'm fine,' he just simply said, 'I'm fine,' for the next 269 years, 24 We need to keep attacking it 365 days a year, 365 days a year,” Begala said.
“It's uplifting. There's an uplifting message from Paul there,” Berman said.
Biden tried to downplay the report's findings in a surprise speech Thursday night, attempting to address concerns about his own memory. Biden said he kept the rosary as a memorial to his son Beau, but seemed to have forgotten the parish it came from, and he has since gone silent.
Biden later referred to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi as “the president of Mexico.”
