Biden Administration Ends Deportation Proceedings for Alleged Sexual Assault Suspect
The Biden administration has wrapped up a deportation case involving illegal immigrants accused of sexually assaulting a woman and holding her captive for several days, according to federal immigration officials.
Jose Armando Carcamo Permodo, a Honduran national, was charged with luring and assault earlier this month after local authorities found a woman trapped in Harris County, Texas. Carcamo allegedly held a sex trafficking victim for five days, beating and assaulting her without providing food or water.
Initially, Carcamo faced removal actions after entering the United States illegally in 2020. However, under the current administration, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) sought to terminate these deportation proceedings in 2023.
Critics argue that such cases exemplify a broader pattern of allowing illegal immigrants with criminal records to remain in the country.
As reported, Carcamo crossed the US-Mexico border on November 24, 2020. An immigration judge recently granted a motion to cease the removal actions in light of the ongoing border crisis.
Authorities arrested Carcamo on July 14, following a neighbor’s report triggered by doorbell camera footage capturing a woman trying to escape. Eyewitnesses noted that it was disturbing, as she was forcibly dragged back inside.
The victim, a Chinese citizen working in New York as a masseuse, traveled to the Houston area under the false promise of better employment. Upon arrival, she reportedly had her passport taken away and was confined in a trailer.
Investigators believe she is just one of several victims in a larger sex trafficking operation. Observers noted that there seems to be a network of individuals involved in these heinous activities.
In enforcement actions, ICE emphasized that such detentions serve to protect communities from individuals who might pose a threat.
A spokesperson for the Trump administration emphasized commitment to tackling crime associated with illegal immigrants, asserting that the safety of American communities is a top priority.
