Phoenix (March 11, 2025) – The Latin Data Hub has just released a report shedding light on the Latino demographic in Maricopa County, one of the fastest-growing areas in the United States. This analysis draws on data from the 2022 pooled five-year American Community Survey (ACS).
The brief outlines various key demographic aspects for Latinos in the county, such as employment trends, educational achievement, income levels, and homeownership. While Latinos are the second-largest racial and ethnic group in Maricopa County, they also encounter numerous challenges in education, healthcare, finance, and job opportunities.
Here are some of the main findings:
- Latinos represent about one-third of Maricopa County’s population, totaling around 1.4 million, making them the second largest group after non-Latino whites (53%).
- Children make up nearly a third of the Latino population (32%), in contrast to 17% among white residents.
- The elderly make up only 6% of Latinos, compared to 23% of white residents and 12% of AAPI residents.
- Approximately 74% of Latinos in the county are born in the U.S., which is higher than the national Latino average of 68%.
- Latinos have a workforce participation rate of 69%, ranking third after Black (71%) and multi-ethnic (72%) individuals.
- Latinos, along with Native Americans, earn the lowest hourly wage in Maricopa at $19, which is $4 below the county’s average of $23.
- Latinos are nearly twice as likely to be uninsured compared to the county average, with 20% lacking insurance compared to 11% overall.
A Senior Research Analyst at UCLA LPPI commented, “Our analysis emphasizes how crucial the growth and role of Latinos in Maricopa County is, as they now make up nearly a third of the population. Understanding their well-being is vital for the county’s future development.”
