Update on Investigations into Truck Driver Attacks
SAN SISON, Arizona – News 4 Tucson has provided significant updates regarding troubling investigations, specifically concerning assaults by truck drivers near San Simon. Authorities from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office have identified a suspect linked to an attack that occurred in February; however, he has reportedly left the country.
The investigation, overseen by Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannel, has now taken on an international dimension. Detectives have uncovered evidence that connects the suspect to the incident, where the victim is currently in a coma, fighting for his life.
The victim, identified as Jack, has sustained severe brain injuries and lost all of his teeth. The surgeon who helped in his treatment shared that Jack experienced some of the worst head trauma imaginable.
According to Dannel, detectives paused their work to closely analyze the movements of trucks entering and leaving the area around the time of the attack.
“It’s amazing that we can sift through thousands of trucks to pinpoint just one involved in this crime, 24/7,” Dannel remarked.
Detectives have secured an arrest warrant from Pennsylvania for 41-year-old Azizbek Akhdov, suspected of attempted murder, though he is thought to have escaped to Uzbekistan. Authorities are collaborating with Interpol to locate and apprehend him.
“We’re fostering diplomatic efforts to ensure he is returned,” Dannel added.
The victim’s wife, Jennifer, shared her heartache with News 4 Tucson reporters back in February while supporting her husband. “Seeing my husband like that, I don’t think my world feels right,” she expressed. He remains hospitalized in Georgia and was transferred there in April, with Jennifer staying by his side.
Sheriff Dannel emphasized the necessity of holding suspects accountable. “We are committed to achieving justice for the victims and ensuring this individual answers for his actions,” he affirmed.
The arrest warrant includes a bond set at $500,000. While Jennifer appreciates the ongoing investigation, she harbors concerns about the possibility of the suspect evading capture. News 4 Tucson will continue to provide updates on this evolving situation.
