It’s lamb season which means sheep keepers are preparing their flocks for growth. Iowa shepherds will never forget this lambing season.
Over the weekend, a Poweseek County ewe gave birth in an unprecedented time.
At about 2:30 am on Sunday, one ewe gave birth on a farm south of Grinnell. The Braxton family said they expected her to have twins or triplets because of her mother’s large belly.
They never imagined she would give birth to so many children.
Braxton Brand said KCCI,
So we got out here and there were two on the ground here, so we moved them, there was a third, a fourth, a fifth. Never four, never five, always triplets – our most.
Sheep usually give birth to one lamb per litter, but it’s not at all uncommon to see twins intermingled. Triplets are rare, but not uncommon. But quintuplets are unheard of!
Veterinarians say the odds of a female giving birth to quintuplets are one in a million. And, even more unusually, all five were healthy.
according to KCCIMoreBraxton started herding sheep five years ago when he was nine years old. His flock started with his five sheep.
