Former Obama adviser David Axelrod warned against former President Donald Trump's efforts to block the vote during an appearance on CNN Wednesday.
The Colorado Supreme Court ruled 4-3 on Dec. 19, nine days before Maine's Democratic Secretary of State, Shena Bellows, declared that Trump was ineligible to vote in 2024. The court ruled that they would be disqualified from voting in elections. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Trump's appeal of the previous ruling on Thursday. “As a preface, it's been three years since President Trump peddled this lie about the election that it was stolen from him, incited people to storm the Capitol, and left the Capitol in disgrace, and now he's in the position he is in. Let me tell you, it's amazing that we're in the position we're in right now,” Axelrod told CNN host Erin Burnett. “I'm not here as an apologist for Donald Trump, and I'm certainly not here as a lawyer, but one of the things that the Supreme Court has to consider is how does a decision like this… I am confident that it will have an impact.”

Legal experts predicted the Supreme Court would overturn the Colorado court's decision.
“As you know, there are a myriad of legal issues that will be considered tomorrow,” Axelrod said. “I'm sure some people would suggest an off-ramp if an off-ramp is necessary, but I imagine what would happen if the Supreme Court took the Republican front-runner off the ballot and essentially said to the American people, “You're not going to have a chance to vote for him, and I think that would be very destructive to this country.
“I think there's going to be a huge repercussion, so I'm worried about that. I'm worried partly because of Donald Trump,” Axelrod continued. “There's already a lot of cynicism going around about our systems, but you know, the strength of our democracy is these systems. That's why we have to do what Colorado courts are proposing. You could argue that it is. But I think in the minds of many voters, this is subversion. It would provoke a very strong reaction.”
Axelrod also mentioned Trump's trial in Washington, D.C. There, Special Counsel Jack Smith filed four charges against Trump, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and conspiracy to defraud the United States, in connection with Trump's efforts to contest the results of the 2020 election in August. secured an indictment. He opposes the right to vote, the right to have one's vote counted, and the collusion to corruptly obstruct and obstruct the January 6 proceedings. Smith did not charge Trump with sedition.
