President Joe Biden's border policies are a “class war” against the working class, Newsweek Opinion editor Batia Unger Sargon said Friday on Real Time with Bill Maher.

“There's a massive realignment happening, and working-class Americans are right on board the Trump train,” she said. “Instead of acknowledging this outrage that Democrats lost working-class votes and trying to figure out how to appeal to them again, they're looking for excuses and other blame.”
A New York Times/Siena College poll released Saturday found that 10 percent of voters who supported Biden in 2020 now support Trump. The poll found that 43% of voters believe Biden's policies have hurt them personally.

Unger Sargon said Democrats “don't want to admit that President Trump has adopted many of the policies that were Democratic policies in the 1990s,” using border security as an example.
“[A]”Open borders and mass immigration are extremely punitive to the working class,” she said. “It pushes down their wages. It’s a class war against the working class. The move allowed them to employ cheaper immigrants instead of paying working-class Americans a living wage.
Illegal border crossings have reached an all-time high under the Biden administration, with Border Patrol recording more than 2 million encounters at the southern border in fiscal year 2023. according to Go to CPB data. Border Patrol has recorded more than 753,000 encounters with migrants in fiscal year 2024.
