‘It’s Foolish’: Alan Dershowitz Slams Biden For Border Crisis Response

Former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz on Friday called the Biden administration's actions on Texas a “stupid” move amid the ongoing border crisis.

Dershowitz appeared on “Hannity” to discuss the recent battle between state authorities and the federal government over the Texas border. Fox host Sean Hannity asked the former law professor for his thoughts on the Biden administration's recent move to require states to hand over border areas.

Dershowitz said this is not only a “stupid act by the president,” but the request is constitutionally and politically unwise. The former law professor criticized the power grab between states' rights and “federal power” and emphasized that the two founding fathers could debate the issue.(Related: Texas Governor Ken Paxton doubles down on border extradition denial to Biden: press release)

“This is a very stupid act by the president. It's constitutionally stupid and it's politically stupid. This is a huge contradiction between the supremacy clause of the Constitution, which is federal power, and the police power of each state. Alexander It would have been a great discussion between Hamilton and James Madison, but I think in the end Hamilton would have said to Madison, “I think the states have a lot more interest in this than the federal government here.'' “Each state will be more directly involved in this decision,” Dershowitz said.

Dershowitz continued to highlight recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court, saying he believes Justice Amy Coney Barrett may “reconsider her vote.” (Related: Biden shifts blame for border crisis in new statement)

“Now, remember that the Supreme Court did not decide this case on the merits. Yes – this is just a guess – the reaction to this was so overwhelming among Texans and people across the country that she might say, “Look, this was a temporary decision.” I think. It was only an interim injunction until the case was heard. After hearing this case, I think the state of Texas probably has a point,” Dershowitz said.

“I'm an honorary citizen of Texas, along with Sean, so I may be biased, but I'm very proud of that. But I think there's a good chance that the state of Texas is right and the federal government is wrong in this case.” And I think Joe Biden has made a grave political and constitutional mistake.”

Matters between Texas and the federal government escalated Monday following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling. control Border Patrol agents will be able to cut razor wire that the country has installed along the border to slow the pace of illegal immigration, he said. Since that decision, Texas has continued to refuse to comply with the Biden administration's demands, with Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott saying the state has a “constitutional right to self-defense.”

Biden also issued a press statement Friday night urging senators to make a decision on border aid. Concerns There was widespread opinion from Republican lawmakers that the deal could have harmful legal consequences.
