Jack Black decided to cancel his entire career via social media on Tuesday, which seems like a total overreaction to a very messed up situation he's found himself in.
Black and fellow bandmate Kyle Gass, who perform together under the name Tenacious D, made headlines on Monday after Gass made some nasty remarks about former President Donald Trump during a show in Sydney, Australia. When asked what his “birthday wish” was, Gass replied, “Just make sure I don't miss Trump next time.” His comments were a reference to the assassination attempt on the former president on Saturday night, which left one person dead and two seriously injured. Black responded to Gass by saying, “Thank you.”
Black and Gass were hit with a public backlash: Hours later, Black told fans he was “appalled by what was said on the show” and that he would “never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” which, by definition, he literally did.
Instead of apologizing, Black raised his sword, clearly driven by ego, in what can only be described as the most pedantic tantrum I have ever seen from a so-called grown man.
“After many hours of reflection, we no longer feel it is appropriate for Tenacious D to continue touring and all future creative plans have been put on hold.” (Related: Honestly, what is Peter Dinklage whining about?)
Look, I would totally understand if Black and Gass had a falling out over this exchange, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were both concerned about their safety, even though Trump supporters have proven they're not the violent type — no one has used an assassination attempt as an excuse to riot in the streets, burn buildings, destroy businesses, and assault people.

Instead of lying about his long-awaited “remorse”, Mr Black should have apologized profusely for his involvement in such a terrible thing, and stopped being a pawn of the party that uses him as a cheap party trick. (Related: Award-winning actor Dev Patel stops knife fight)
Maybe Black was genuinely “blindsided” at the time, but his reaction to other people's reactions is disappointing. He only seems to be thinking about himself and not the 9 or 10 fans left. Instead, Gus should have apologized, even though literally no one knows who he is and would never be able to find him at a police meet and greet.
My prayer is that one day in this great country, instead of acting like poor, whiny little girls, liberal men will stand up tall, be proud of their actions and accept responsibility.
