Peter Navarro, an imprisoned former adviser to President Trump, is scheduled to leave prison on Wednesday to speak at the Republican National Convention (RNC), according to the Associated Press.
Navarro, a key trade adviser to then-President Donald Trump, is scheduled to leave a federal prison in Miami to speak at the Republican National Convention, which runs from Monday to Thursday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to a source familiar with the convention schedule. Said The Associated Press reported Friday that Navarro and his allies criticized the conviction for failing to comply with a Jan. 6 committee subpoena, calling it a political incarceration and a “death sentence.”
Navarro is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, giving him enough time to board a flight to Milwaukee and speak at the Republican National Convention before the event ends on Thursday. It's not yet clear what time frame Navarro plans to speak, according to the Associated Press. The Republican National Convention did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Legal wars are real. Legal wars are wrong. We shouldn't be acting like Communist China or a banana republic. But that's the growing awareness of our justice system,” Navarro previously told The Daily Caller. “I'm not in prison for a crime, I'm in prison for a matter of honor and duty in upholding the constitutional separation of powers.”(RELATED: Trump says he'd 'absolutely' rehire Peter Navarro)
The September charges stemmed from his failure to comply with a subpoena from the committee on January 6, when he invoked executive privilege to refuse to testify and provide documents to the committee. Former White House counsel Steve Bannon was also convicted of failing to comply with a subpoena related to the January 6 investigation and was sentenced to four months in prison, of which he is currently serving.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) argued that Navarro should receive a longer sentence, recommending six months in prison and a $200,000 fine instead of the four months and $9,500 fine that were offered as part of his final sentence. Said According to court documents, Navarro's refusal to comply with the subpoena “exacerbated” an “assault” on the rule of law, saying his “insubordination and contempt deserve severe punishment.”
Navarro was arrested by FBI agents at Ronald Reagan National Airport in June 2022 and charged in U.S. District Court in Washington, DC.
Navarro told the Daily Caller that his time in prison wasn't like the “Club Fed” that many have made it out to be.
“This is a dangerous place health-wise. The diet is low in protein, high in carbohydrates and no fresh vegetables, which exacerbates problems like diabetes, colon cancer and heart disease. I am fortunate because I am not on medication, as prescription drugs are in short supply at the daily 'medicine line', causing many inmates to suffer unnecessarily from symptoms that are supposed to be alleviated by prescription drugs. I live in a small dorm with about 200 other inmates. The new strain of COVID-19 emerged a few weeks ago and spread quickly,” Navarro said.
